Physiological effects
Strawberry-flavoured Visiobalance® Junior chewable tablets contain a standardised amount of lutein and zeaxanthin extracted from marigold flower. The product is recommended for strained and light-sensitive eyes and to protect eyes from harmful blue light.
Each day, at increasingly younger age, we are exposed to blue light reflecting from digital device displays, sunlight and energy-efficient lighting. Lutein and zeaxanthin increase the amount of macula pigment and form there a protective layer.
Lutein and zeaxanthin are the only carotenoids in nature out of about 600 carotenoids found in the eye. In the eye, their concentration is also considerably higher than elsewhere in the body. Carotenoids are not produced by the body itself, so they must be obtained from food. Spinach and other green vegetables contain some lutein and zeaxanthin, but they are especially abundant in marigold flower, from which the lutein and zeaxanthin in the VisioBalance® Junior dietary supplement are also derived.
Lutein and zeaxanthin protect important visual pigments in the eye, especially the macula, from the harmful effects of blue light and sunlight, prevent oxidation of the visual pigment, and care for vision.
Lutein and zeaxanthin enhance the adaptation of the eye to varying amounts of light and improve night and contrast vision.
